PSI Delivers System for the First Automatically Controlled Depot in Poland

Municipal Transportation Company in Poznan optimises tram depot with PSItraffic

Berlin, 19 May 2014 – As part of the opening ceremony of the new tram depot of the municipal transportation company MPK in Poznan/Poland at the beginning of May 2014, the PSItraffic Depot Management System (DMS) delivered by PSI Transcom GmbH and PSI Polska Sp. z o.o. went into operation. The depot in the district of Franowo is one of the largest and most modern vehicle depots in Europe. With an area of 17 hectare, it was planned for 150 trams.

With the launch of the PSItraffic/DMS, the disposition of vehicles in the depot has been automated. This includes the optimised control and handling of vehicle supply, the tracking of vehicles and the allocation to blocks. Simultaneously, the system automatically records all the relevant data for reports and statistics. For the optimisation of the parking disposition, PSI uses the Qualicision® algorithm, which detects conflicts and tolerances and calculates the optimal location. Drivers will also profit from improvements in operational procedures, especially from the information supply (departure tables and entrance displays with parking positions) and the consideration of individual vehicle requirements.

With PSItraffic/DMS MPK will optimise depot processes and will be able to relieve their staff from routine tasks. Transparent processes, increased vehicle availability, less vehicle reserves and less shunting will result in cost reductions and greater productivity.

The Poznan municipal transportation company MPK annually transports around 210 million passengers with 2,500 employees. The 320 buses and 223 trams service 52 bus lines and 19 tram lines. The network of tram lines is 156 kilometres long. There are a total of five depots for trams and buses in Poznan.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (gas, oil, electricity, heat, energy trading), production management (mining, metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs 1,700 persons worldwide.
