Job Description

The Software Developer is responsible for the development of the standard application of PSImetals Planning. This application is the world leading production planning and scheduling solution for the metals industry with references all over the world and functions ranging from sales and operation planning, master planning, and detailed scheduling as well as complex cutting and assignment optimization engines.

Besides the development of the standard product, the Software Developer will be integrated into project teams to support the achievement of successful projects.


The Software developer will give support to current activities of PSI Metals according to the actual needs.

In particular:

-          Development of the standard application PSImetals Planning

o   Development of new functionalities to enrich the product

o   Go from project requirements to standard features developments as much as possible

o   Integration of the PSImetals Planning with other applications of PSI Metals

o   Improvement of usability and user experience

-          R&D to develop the next generation of our standard software

-          Support project execution with

o   Understanding the customer’s requirement

o   Developing  required functionalities

o   Creating and performing test cases

o   Supporting system integration if required (pre-processing, post processing)

o   Designing and implementation of optimization models

The activities have to be performed either at PSI Metals in Brussels or at PSI Metals customer facilities.

Job Requirements

We are looking for experienced developers as well as recent graduates that are motivated to be part of the development of a standard product pioneer in its field. Typical study disciplines will be civil engineering, machine learning, data science, Information Technology, applied mathematics, mathematics, physics…

In addition to technical skills, qualified candidates will demonstrate strong social skills, proactivity, and independence in their tasks. Knowledge or experience in the metals industry will definitely stand out from the rest.

Our software development is performed primarily in C++, Java, as well as database applications in Oracle using PL/SQL. Python is also commonly used. Experience in these programming languages is an asset.

Knowledge in Operation Research, Optimization techniques and optimization engines are highly appreciated.

The Software Developer will travel on a moderate basis to our customer sites. The communication language is predominantly English while any other languages are an asset.
