Today, the uninterrupted supply of energy has essentially become the enabler of modern life. Short-term and especially medium-term interruptions of the energy supply affect all areas of life.
Meeting the demands for highest supply quality, economic efficiency, and full integration of resource-protecting generation requires sophisticated technology for managing the supply grid.

PSIcontrol provides outstanding functions to ensure the availability of energy grids. With a superb forecast system, future load curves are determined based on neural networks, extrapo-lation methods, time series, and load profiles to ensure the power frequency for the transmis-sion grid operators, and thereby indirectly the energy availability in cities.
With its approach to hierarchical grid management, PSIcontrol also employs a dynamic model of SmartGrid/MicroGrid and thereby includes the topological changes and the daily grid man-agement jobs in the decentralized management of local SmartGrids. This is accomplished by automatic download of the topological data model of the control system to the decentralized components.
The optimized human-machine interface has been customized for the users. It also facilitates easy recognition of critical grid situations and supports efficient and contemporaneous resolution of outages by isolating the faulty asset.
The change processes and measures which are required for increasing economic efficiency can be determined by a structured multi-year process analysis. Currently, there is a variety of trends. In particular, the concentration of control equipment, meaning the management of larger grids with less staff, as well as the move from stand-alone management of single energy types to multi-utility management must be mentioned. An additional trend is the IT support for related processes such as the management of technicians involved in fault clearance and maintenance measures.
Volatile, decentralized, and renewable are the main key words for the energy supply of the future. This poses new challenges for the grid operators. The energy generation and consumption must now be intelligently balanced. The increasing infeed of renewable energies in medium and even low voltage networks imposes additional requirements on the grid operators. This requires substantially increased automation of these voltage levels of the grid.
We participate in a number of research projects; the resulting knowledge is incorporated in the enhancement of the outstanding functions of our control system. Therefore, our software solutions can adapt early to the changing requirements of our customers.
