PSI Receives Important Network Control System Contracts in the First Quarter of 2016

Upgrades for Netze BW and Trafikverket, control functions ordered by new customer Tiroler Wasserkraft (TIWAG)

Berlin, 21 April 2016 – PSI division Electrical Energy kicked off into the new year with a number of important orders. As well as comprehensive upgrades for the network control systems of Netze BW and the Swedish rail company Trafikverket, Tiroler Wasserkraft (TIWAG) has placed an order for the installation of PSIcontrol functions, which are already in use in other systems.

At the end of 2015, Netze BW placed an order for a comprehensive upgrade for their network control system in Baden-Württemberg. The origins of the system go back to the time when PSI operated as a general contractor in network control technology. The system has been extended several times, both functionally and in terms of the network area it covers. The new upgrade to PSIcontrol Release 4.4 essentially comprises modernised visualisation and user interfaces, the latest security technology in compliance with the BDEW White Paper and EEG feed-in management functions. As previously, the control system will be installed in four regionally distributed, working in combination network control centres, for the management of high and medium voltage networks.

Swedish railway operator Trafikverket has also ordered a comprehensive system upgrade for its network control system. As well as a configuration extension to partially virtual systems, the current PSIcontrol release with additional security features will be installed. The Trafikverket control system includes advanced functions to control rail power supply to the transport and traction current as well as comprehensive tunnel management. One special feature is the integrated training system for rail power applications, which amongst other things is capable of imaging moving loads (trains). Trafikverket operates two control centres for rail power and a further centre for tunnel monitoring, which is also used to support special activities in emergencies.

The order placed by the TIWAG (Tiroler Wasserkraft), which is headquartered in Innsbruck, Austria, is a little out of the ordinary. The EWLS (energy industry process control system) will be used to control the deployment of power plants, and in particular the provision of operating reserve. Here, the control functions of PSIcontrol will be implemented, which are already in use in other systems.

Comprehensive datasets from the previous PSI versions or other data sources will be integrated in all systems. These orders enable PSI to further build and strengthen the company’s good order situation in the distribution grid sector in Germany. The new customer TIWAG allows PSI to increase the system basis in Austria, where PSI now has five major users.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (gas, oil, electricity, heat, energy trading), production management (mining, metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs 1,650 persons worldwide.
