Warehouse management system harmonises IT landscape and increases process quality

Berlin, 8 March 2017 – Mahr GmbH, a global manufacturer of production metrology, is relying on the PSIwms warehouse management system of PSI Logistics GmbH for warehousing in its central production supply and distribution warehouse at the company’s headquarters in Göttingen. As a long-standing cus-tomer of PSI, Mahr is already using the ERP system PSIpenta.

The logistics centre in Göttingen is one of five locations nationwide to have a stacker-operated high-bay warehouse, an automated small parts warehouse and an automated paternoster warehouse. These warehouses not only supply raw materials and semi-finished products to connecting production lines, they also store and distribute goods. This makes material flow correspondingly complex. Mahr has a long-standing tradition as a supplier to the automotive and automotive supplies industry, the electrical engineering, medical technology and aerospace sector, and mechanical engineering companies.

In implementing the new release 4.0 of PSIwms, Mahr aims to ensure the realignment of its product portfolio and enhancement of its products and services through a high-quality process. PSIwms will go a long way to harmonising the IT infrastructure of intralogistics in Göttingen – which is currently defined by multiple individual systems – and integrate automation system controls directly into a coordinated order production process via standardised interfaces. This also involves consolidating storage capacities and making intralogistics processes more efficient and dynamic.

All processes and capacity utilisation are made visually transparent thanks to a control centre and cockpit module in PSIwms. The integrated stacker control system acts as an in-house transport management system for optimising storage and retrieval in the high-bay warehouse. The system also paves the way for replacing document-based (picking) processes in order processing and increasing automation.

PSI Logistics was awarded the contract following a call for tenders; the commissioning is expected to take place in summer 2017.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (energy networks, energy trading), production management (mining, metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs more than 1,600 persons worldwide.
