Optimization of logistics at Mister Spex with PSIwms

With over seven million customers, Mister Spex is Europe's leading omnichannel optical brand. The product portfolio includes branded glasses, sunglasses, contact lenses and various care products. In addition to online stores in ten countries, the company operates more than 70 stores in Germany, Austria, Sweden and Switzerland. Mister Spex also has a nationwide network of over 300 partner opticians. In fiscal year 2023, the company increased its sales by six percent to 224 million euros.

Mastering challenges

At its logistics center in Berlin-Siemensstadt, the omnichannel optician stores the majority of its goods on 6,500 square meters of warehouse space. From there, thousands of shipments are shipped daily to more than seven million customers across Europe. There are also production facilities on site where lenses are cut and assembled according to customers' individual requirements.

The focus was on coordinating the complex material flows and controlling the intralogistics processes for fast order production and on-time production supply.

Customer's objective

Mister Spex wanted to expand its capacity, speed up shipping processes and optimize process control. The company strengthened its position with a new state-of-the-art production facility and logistics center in Berlin Siemensstadt as well as a new high-performance warehouse management system.

Solution approach

Mister Spex relies on PSIwms to optimize its logistics processes. Connected to the ERP system Navision, PSIwms controls all processes between incoming and outgoing goods. This includes the management of storage bins, inventory management as well as production supply and order production. The solution generates storage bins according to different strategies, priorities and article classifications, which are continuously adjusted based on sales and throughput figures. The software also determines the transport orders for storage and picking processes in a route-optimized manner.

PSIwms also coordinates the merging of materials and the timely supply of the grinding and assembly stations with the relevant order information. In the case of pure shipping orders, the system controls the material flows for order picking, the consolidation of order items for delivery to the warehouse, and the transfer to shipping production.

Warehouse characteristics

  • Control of 15,000 orders per day
  • Mapping of multichannel strategy
  • Multi-order picking
  • Returns handling
  • Support for customer and store deliveries
  • Control of the production processes for eyeglasses

The result in detail

PSIwms is particularly effective in handling incoming and outgoing goods at high capacity, for example during seasonal peak periods. For Mister Spex, PSIwms has proven to be an economical and sustainable investment.

The system's upgradeability, in particular, ensures that we are optimally positioned for future technological and economic developments in terms of volume growth, process optimization, technologies and system functions.
