Viessmann Logistik International GmbH, responsible among other things for the transport network and the worldwide locations of Viessmann Climate Solutions, optimizes the logistics network with PSIglobal. Viessmann Climate Solutions SE, with 22 production companies in eleven countries, produces system solutions for all areas of application based on renewable and fossil fuels. The product spectrum ranges from heating systems for single-family homes to large-scale systems for industry and commerce.
Challenges
As a leading provider in the heating and air-conditioning technology sector, Viessmann faces a wide range of challenges in the changing energy industry. The company‘s transformation requires a strategic realignment. At the same time, the new heating law is leading to reduced interest in traditional, older technologies.
The range of tasks relating to the supply chain includes merging data, filtering relevant information for export, a plausibility check of imported data, carrying out a quantity analysis and optimizing locations.
Objective
The main objectives of Viessmann Logistik International were to make its own supply chain more flexible, efficient, and future proof considering changes in heating and air conditioning technology. To end its previous reliance on external consulting services, the company sought to build internal expertise for independent and continuous scenario analysis. Specifically, the goal was to transparently visualize and optimize the complex, Europe-wide flow of goods. In addition to targeted greenfield and brownfield site planning, the focus was on reducing transport distances, lowering logistics costs, shortening delivery times, and improving service levels.
Solution approach
As a solution, PSIglobal enables Viessmann to perform independent and flexible scenario analyses as well as continuously optimize its logistics network. By providing a detailed view of individual shipment items, the solution increases efficiency and accuracy throughout the supply chain. At the same time, the software supports optimized inventory management and shorter delivery times by enabling better planning and management of the product portfolio.
The decision to implement PSIglobal was based, among other factors, on positive experience gained from previous partner management projects. With its data management and location optimization modules, the software also provides the foundation for the transition to strategic network planning. By optimizing its European logistics network, Viessmann increases transparency and coordination, shortens transportation distances, and reduces costs—thereby strengthening its competitive position.
In concrete terms, PSIglobal is used to plan and manage approximately 70 routes and 12,000 full truckloads each year. In addition, the capacities and locations of around 25 warehouses can be optimized. Initial results demonstrate the solution’s potential: In one sales market, an analysis using PSIglobal has already reduced transportation miles in last-mile distribution by 30%.
The result
In the approximately one and a half years that we have been working with PSIglobal, we have been able to visualize the flow of goods transparently and optimize it advantageously according to various criteria.
The implementation of PSIglobal has successfully digitized and strategically enhanced network planning at Viessmann. Through detailed analysis of goods flows, transportation and site structures can be optimized based on data, which is already clear in practice. The company now benefits from full network transparency, greater efficiency, and significantly reduced logistics costs, while simultaneously improving service quality.
