Modernized and integrated production planning in the supply chain ecosystem
Berlin, June 26, 2025 – As part of a comprehensive digital transformation project, Georgsmarienhütte GmbH (GMH) has successfully implemented PSImetals Demand and Sales Planning including the modules Demand Manager and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) at its steel plant. As a result, the integrated production planning system supports end-to-end planning across the company’s supply chain and production units.

With the PSI software solutions, accurate due date confirmations of sales order entry can now be provided within few minutes, assuming there is sufficient capacity. In addition, the S&OP enables an optimized production mix, as rolling and annealing lines can be aligned more effectively with production orders to better fulfill customer demand.
A scenario-based S&OP process allows GMH to evaluate and compare multiple forecast and planning scenarios based on KPIs as well as strategic planning. This enhances seamless transition into detailed operational scheduling. The solution is based on a modern architecture using the PSImetals Service Platform and features real-time integration with SAP via standardized interfaces.
“In a highly dynamic environment, this integrated solution helps us align our business goals across all planning levels and respond quickly to changes. PSImetals has laid the groundwork for a scalable, agile and future-proof planning environment. We now have a robust and flexible foundation for KPI-driven decision-making and long-term production optimization,” says Christopher Flore, SCM Director at Georgsmarienhütte GmbH.
Georgsmarienhütte GmbH from Georgsmarienhütte in Lower Saxony is one of Europe's leading suppliers of crude steel, bar steel and bright steel made from quality and engineering steels. The company also manufactures pre-processed and, in some cases, ready-to-install components. Georgsmarienhütte is already one of the most climate-friendly steel companies in Germany. With its comparatively low CO₂ value chain, in which scrap is melted in the electric arc furnace and recycled into new steel, it makes an important contribution to the circular economy and is a pioneer in sustainable steel production. The methodology used by Georgsmarienhütte to calculate the product carbon footprint (PCF) has been validated by TÜV SÜD and is now used for more than a thousand steel variants.
In addition to the automotive industry and its suppliers, customers are served in particular in mechanical and plant engineering and the energy industry. Steel from Georgsmarienhütte is used wherever the load is greatest, where power is generated or transmitted and safe and wear-resistant operation is important. www.gmh.de
