Site in Paderborn benefits from increased transparency and smoothened operations

Berlin, June 15, 2023 – In only a few months’ time, PSI FLS Fuzzy Logik & Neuro Systeme has realized a system solution for order scheduling and production sequencing at Diebold Nixdorf’s main production site. PSI’s standard components PSIasm/Qualicision Sequencing and PSIpenta Adaptive Planning make up the foundation for the system. The order came in via PSI’s App Store.

As a market leader in its field, Diebold Nixdorf produces highly customizable ATMs and self-checkout systems for its worldwide customer base. At site Paderborn, additionally components for other Diebold Nixdorf sites are produced together with original parts for the service teams. A growing portfolio complexity and dynamic sourcing options caused a need for increased transparency in the order planning process.

Following a series of requirements workshops, PSI has provided a system solution based on PSI’s standard components PSIasm/Qualicision Sequencing and PSIpenta Adaptive Planning. Here, the Production Order Management (POM) is used for holding the different data sources. At defined intervals, the full order book is evaluated considering all incoming and outgoing material streams. The evaluation follows a top-down approach along the full production chain. Furthermore, orders are smoothened according to defined capacity limits. The user receives early alerts in case of missing components or capacity bottlenecks, so that appropriate measures may be taken.

In the short-term horizon, a pool of production orders is identified as candidates for sequencing the next production day. The Qualicision AI based line sequencing optimizes regarding both order criteria and production times per workplace. Here, the objective is to balance the load per line. Diebold Nixdorf has reported improved production performance in a double-digit percentage range.

The PSI Group develops its own software products for optimizing the flow of energy and materials for utilities (energy grids, energy trading, public transport) and industry (metals production, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics). The industry-specific products, which are built from standard components, are sold both directly and via the cloud-based PSI App Store and can also be customized by customers and partners themselves. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs more than 2,200 people worldwide.
