Harz Energie Netz, OsthessenNetz, and WEMAG Netz rely on PSIprins

Berlin, August 7, 2025 – As part of the project “Kooperation Leitsystem” (Cooperation Control System) the three grid operators Harz Energie Netz, OsthessenNetz, and WEMAG Netz have awarded PSI Software SE with the implementation of a new, modern grid control system based on PSIprins. This marks the first time that three geographically distant network operators are relying on a common control system platform for intelligent grid management.

RhönEnergie

In this forward-looking cooperation project, the three grid companies are pooling their expertise and relying on close cooperation. They are cooperating in the selection of the system, its implementation, and, in the future, joint grid management. The goal is to implement a joint, high-performance multi-utility grid control system in order to meet the increasing demands on grid management, system services, as well as supply security.

Based on a concept study as well as harmonized grid management guidelines, PSI was selected after an intensive selection process to implement the new control system in the coming project phases. First major milestone is the establishment of three technically identical control centers in Osterode, Fulda, and Schwerin. The start-up of the new system is planned for 2028.

Harz Energie Netz GmbH, based in Osterode, is the leading municipal grid operator for electricity, natural gas, and water in the Harz region. OsthessenNetz GmbH, headquartered in Fulda, is the electricity, natural gas, and water grid operator in the East Hesse region and is part of the RhönEnergie Group. Based in Schwerin, WEMAG Netz GmbH is the regional electricity distribution grid operator in parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, and Lower Saxony.

The PSI Group develops software products for optimizing the flow of energy and materials for utilities and industry. As an independent software producer with more than 2,300 employees, PSI has been a technology leader since 1969 for process control systems that ensure sustainable energy supply, production and logistics by combining AI methods with industrially proven optimization methods. The innovative industry products can be operated on-premises or in the cloud.
